Since 1945 the role women play in society has changed. Equal rights have come a long way, however, as Michelle Obama states we still have a long way to go for equity for women.

As Canada grew older as a country following the years after World War 2 Canada's society was changing for the better. An example of this is women's rights movement that is still taking place today. When the Charter of Rights and Freedoms was released this was the first big step towards gender equality. Even though this Charter was released big change was not seen instantly. Many women continue to be discriminated which I find embarrassing. In my eyes women and men should be treated equally. For example women are often paid much lower than men for the exact same or similar work. Although many people throughout Canada have been taking steps in the right direction via protests and legal proceedings.
